Colchagua Valley, in central Chile, is one of South America's most promising wine regions. It forms the southwestern half of the larger Rapel Valley region; to the north and east of it lies the less famous but equally promising Cachapoal Valley.
Luis Felipe Edwards is a major Chilean winery producing more than 2.5 million cases per year and exporting to more than 85 countries. It won Chilean Winery of the Year at the 2012 London International Wine Fair awards.
This wine has juicy notes of red fruits and also slight hints of spice. For the price, it is a tremendous example of the strain, with all the meatiness and also the smoothness of the merlot, especially those that grow under the intense Colchagua sun. A bargain.
